Claire Holt Reveals Her Favorite Rebekah Moment — And We Get Emotional

Claire Holt (Rebekah) may have left The Originals as a main character, but it wasn’t because she didn’t love working on the show, or adore her amazing character. What did she say was her favorite Rebekah moment?

I loved my scenes with @JosephMorgan in the cemetery when he set me free,” Claire divulged on Twitter. Excellent choice! The scene in question — one of Rebekah’s last on the show (until her inevitable return, at least) — makes us tear up just thinking about it. It comes near the end of Season 1, Episode 16 (“Farewell to Storyville”). Klaus (Joseph Morgan) and Rebekah have spent the entire episode hashing out their emotional and complex history, Klaus ready to kill Rebekah for bringing their father to New Orleans in 1919, when the spell keeping them in the cemetery is lifted. As Down Under’s perfectly melancholic “NoNoNo” plays, Klaus tells Rebekah why they can’t forget the past.

“What’s done is never done,” Klaus says. “It remains within us, the story we tell ourselves so we know who we are. Vicious father. Bastard son. The sister who betrayed him. Perhaps, it’s time for a new story.” Klaus asks Rebekah what she wants.

“The same things that I have wanted since I was a child,” Rebekah replies. “I want a home. I want a family. I want someone to love me. And I want to live.”

So, Klaus lets her go, telling Rebekah: “You, sister. You are free.”

We doubt this is the last we’ve seen of the youngest Mikaelson, but for now we can’t think of a more poignant send off. Both Klaus and Rebekah’s characters have been largely defined by their relationship to one another. Watching it change in this way, with Klaus finally letting Rebekah go, is such an important moment. Until next time, Bex.
