Rayna Jaymes may be in a pickle on Nashville, but we’re glad to hear that Connie Britton is faring better than her on-screen counterpart. The former Friday Night Lights star was just named a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations Development Program, which means she’ll be spreading her mantra of “clear eyes, full hearts, can’t lose” around the world.

“Making it official! @undp_ Goodwill Ambassador#endpoverty #connie4undp,” Connie captioned a photo of her signing the contract on her freshly-minted Instagram account (and haven’t ya heard, she’s on Twitter too!).

“In my own travels, I’ve seen many places where people are living in extreme poverty,” Connie told CBS News. “It’s unacceptable that, in 2014, one billion people live in such conditions, and a full sixty percent of the chronically hungry in the world are women. I look forward to working with UNDP to help change this and improve the lives of vulnerable people worldwide.”

Connie calls the appointment “one of the greatest opportunities of my life” and says she wants to focus on eradicating poverty and standing up for women’s issues.

The Nashville diva’s co-star Charles Esten (Deacon Claybourne) tweeted his congrats, with Connie playfully replying, “Thanks Chip...I mean @CharlesEsten!” How adorable are these two? Answer: Very.

Are you surprised to hear that Connie was named a goodwill ambassador for the UN? Hit the comments and share your congrats!
