The soundtrack for “The Quarterback” debuts today on the Billboard album chart at number seven. The six-song EP — featuring all the songs heard on the episode, including Lea Michele’s (Rachel) “Make You Feel My Love” and Naya Rivera’s (Santana) “If I Die Young” — sold a total of 47,000 copies, with proceeds benefitting the Project Limelight charity. Nicely done, Gleeks.
What makes this news all the more impressive is the fact that a Glee album hasn’t reached the chart’s top 10 since way back in the halcyon days of 2011. That’s right: Glee: The Music, Season 3 — Volume 7 was the last Glee album to hit such a high (sales) note, reaching number 9 on December 24, 2011.
As to be expected, the sales for “The Quarterback” pale in comparison to this week’s number one album, Miley Cyrus’s highly anticipated Bangerz, which racked up 270,000 sales. But those two worlds will collide on November 14 with Glee’s Season 5, Episode 5: “The End of Twerk,” which will reportedly feature a Miley tune. Tongues out, Glee fans!
It’s great news that so many people picked up the Cory tribute album, especially since it benefitted his favorite charity. His Glee family really did an impressive job with each one of their songs.
