Cory Monteith Thought of Glee Co-Stars as His Siblings, Amber Riley Says
We’re bracing ourselves for Glee’s Cory Monteith tribute episode, Season 5, Episode 3: “The Quarterback,” which airs on Thursday, October 10. It’s sure to be painful to watch. Luckily, people of people have been sharing funny and upbeat stories of Cory’s life since he passed away, including his Glee co-stars.
One such story comes from Amber Riley(Mercedes), who appeared this week on The Queen Latifah Show. Queen Latifah asks Amber for her fondest memory of Cory, and Amber recalls a time when the cast first traveled to NYC together, presumably sometime in spring 2010. As it just so happens, the Michael Jackson movie This Is It was playing on the airplane.
“Cory for the most part had been kind of quiet before then — he was the last person to join the five of us, the original five — and I remember him singing and dancing for the first time on the plane,” Amber recalls.
“And he was not the best dancer,” the current Dancing with the Stars contestant adds. “But him being an only child, he was saying, ‘I feel like I have brothers and sisters now’... That felt really special —that felt really special to me.”
This is a tough story to hear, but it also makes us smile to think of Cory letting go and showing off his not-so-fancy footwork. And we love hearing how close the Glee cast has been since the start of the show.
We’re grateful to Amber for sharing this story, and we look forward to seeing the cast say goodbye during next week’s powerful episode.
