Lea Michele: After Cory Monteith’s Death, He Would Want Me To…

Right now, Lea Michele (Rachel) is facing the incredibly difficult task of having to adjust to life without her boyfriend and Glee co-star Cory Monteith (Finn). The 31-year-old passed away suddenly of an accidental heroin overdose this July. In the months that have followed, Lea’s thrown herself into her work on Glee. But nothing about it has been easy.

"I never thought I would be in this position in my whole life," the Lea says in the newest issue of Elle magazine. "Now that I am in this position, you can choose to rise, and that's what I'm going to try to do."

Countless co-stars have spoken out to praise Lea for her strength and determination during this time, but Lea fully admits that her work- and action-oriented approach to life after the loss of Cory has not been easy.

"It's very hard, and you have to be very strong to come out of this alive, but I think by doing the best for myself, by showing that you don't have to lose yourself, maybe someone else will feel some sort of strength or comfort."

The Glee star maintains the need for privacy in this difficult time, telling the magazine that she and Cory “had a full life,” and that there are many details about that life she is not going to share with everyone.

In the end, Lea says she knows Cory would want her to use the circumstances surrounding his death as a way to help people in need.

"I know that Cory would want nothing more than for me to take this situation and use it to help people,” she says. “I don't know if I will. I don't know how."

Anyone else feel like Lea’s being too hard on herself? She’s done so much already. We’re sure that Glee’s Cory Monteith tribute, and the charity donations it’s raised is a very good place to start. As for doing something else, we’re sure Lea will find an opportunity when it comes.
