Cory Monteith Death: Jonathan Groff Rushes to Best Friend Lea Michele’s Side — UPDATE
UPDATE: On July 20, Glee creator Ryan Murphy — director of The Normal Heart — told E! Online that production for his movie was not actually shut down. Though Jonathan did rush to be with Lea, Ryan says that production for the movie was already finished at that point.
In the wake of Cory Monteith's death, Lea's rep has issued a statement saying, "We ask that everyone kindly respect Lea's privacy during this devastating time." The actress has also been MIA from her social media accounts since the news broke, meaning she is clearly grieving privately, although fans have inundated Twitter with rallying support for the actress and have been doing their best to honor Cory.
According to USA Today, Lea has not been alone during this tragic time. The article quotes a student from Arizona State University who had insider news about what was going on with Lea. "I was really sad for Lea," the student says. "My friend in New York is working as a stage hand on the set of The Normal Heart with Jonathan Groff and he told me they canceled filming so that Jonathan could go be with her."
This account makes total sense, since both Jonathan and Normal Heart director Ryan Murphy are very close with Lea. Jonathan and Lea have been friends since starring on Broadway together in Spring Awakening way back in 2006, where Ryan Murphy first discovered the future Glee stars.
