Cory Monteith Death: Glee Season 5 Premiere Pushed Back — How Long?
When news broke that Glee’s leading man Cory Monteith's (Finn) had died of what we later learned to be a drug overdose, we quickly realized that his death would have a huge impact on the course of Glee Season 5. FOX had already announced that the show would premiere on September 19, but we guessed that wasn’t going to happen in light of Cory’s passing.
The morning after his death, Cory was supposed to fly back to Los Angeles from Canada to begin filming his first scenes of Season 5, something that sadly didn’t happen. Now, not only is the cast dealing with the heartbreaking loss of a brother — the script they were about to start filming must be totally rewritten.
On July 19 — six days after Cory’s death — FOX announced that production on Glee Season 5 has been pushed back until early August, giving writers and producers time to figure out how to write in Finn Hudson’s sudden departure. So far, no information has been released as to whether Finn will be killed off the show or simply disappear off to college never to be heard from again.
However, we do have an updated premiere date. Glee Season 5 will begin one week later than originally scheduled: on Thursday, September 26, 2013.
Honestly, in light of this tragedy, we were expecting the premiere to be pushed back much further than just a week! While we are of course excited to see the show return, it will be with a heavy heart that we watch all of our favorite characters return to the screen knowing full well that Finn Hudson will never walk among them again.
