#RememberingCory Monteith: Finn Hudson’s 5 Best Glee Moments
Cory Monteith (Finn) passed away suddenly on July 13, and during tonight's GleeSeason 5, Episode 3: "The Quarterback," we all will say goodbye both to Cory, and to his beloved Glee character, Finn Hudson. There's no doubt in our minds that Finn was one of Glee's core characters, and one of the most beloved. A football jock who discovered a secret love of music, Finn's journey was often a complex one. He learned so much about himself, and about others, during his time in the glee club. Now, we’re taking some time to remember some of his greatest Glee moments. We already rounded up his best musical performances, so join us now as we take a look back on some of his best scenes.
But how do you possibly narrow down Finn’s (Cory Monteith) most defining moments on Glee? He has provided some of the show’s most pivotal scenes, between his beautiful romance with Rachel (Lea Michele) and his evolving personal growth.
Without further ado, so here are the five scenes of his that stick with us the most. We miss you, Finn and Cory.
People and experiences were always more important to Finn than accolades, which is him impulsively kissing Rachel on the Nationals stage — at the possible expense of a trophy — is such a classic Finn move. Between the onstage kiss and their subsequent conversation on the floor of the library, this episode reminded us why it would always be Finn and Rachel.
4. Finn tells Brody that Rachel is his “future wife” (Season 4, Episode 16: “Feud”)
Season 4 was rocky for Finchel, which is why this reminder of Finn’s eternal feelings for Rachel — as he gave Brody the what-for in the hotel room — and hearing Finn refer to Rachel as his “future wife” simply made us melt. Sure, we might not have been crazy about Finn’s tendency to resort to physical violence when it came to fighting for Rachel — thank goodness Jesse St. James can duck! — but we certainly love his passion.
3. Finn sings to Kurt at their parents’ wedding (Season 2, Episode 8: “Furt”)
Besides his relationship with Rachel, probably the second most integral storyline for Finn has been his friendship with Kurt. We get to see Finn’s growth through his scenes with his new stepbro, which culminated in his performance of “Just the Way You Are” to Kurt at Carole and Burt’s moving ceremony. We love you just the way you are, too, Finn.
2. Finn proposes to Rachel (Season 3, Episode 10: “Yes/No”)
Finn’s low-key proposal may have taken Rachel by surprise, but the words he chose could not have been more perfectly Finn. “You’re like a beacon of light guiding me through the darkness,” he tells her, before saying he knows “everything is going to be okay” when he’s with her. This speech manages to give us strength during this current real-life darkness that we’re all feeling.
1. Finn tells Rachel “I love you” before they sing “Faithfully” (Season 1, Episode 22: “Journey”)
Finn gave so many great song performances, but its his duet with Rachel on “Faithfully” that gets us every time — especially since it came right after he told her he loved her for the first time. This is when we knew Rachel and Finn had to end up together, and the way Cory plays the scene — both vulnerable and optimistic — epitomizes what we love about Finn... and the actor who played him. We’re forever yours, Cory.
