Cory Monteith Scholarship: Glee Stars Create Arts Fund in His Name

Cory Monteith (Finn) may not be with us anymore, but a handful of his Glee co-stars have banded together to make sure that his work of helping young people through arts education will continue on long after his death.

Darren Criss (Blaine), Jenna Ushkowitz (Tina), Jane Lynch (Sue) and Harry Shum Jr. (Mike) have all donated money to an arts scholarship set up in Cory’s name through the Dance Educators of America. In Touch reports the news, which was announced by Adam Shankman, a frequent guest judge on So You Think You Can Dance who has also directed several Glee episodes.

"Thanks, Cory, we love you," Adam said as he made his announcement.

It’s no secret that Cory was passionate about using the arts to help put young people on a better path. He supported multiple arts charities aimed at youth, including Project Limelight, Virgin Unite, and Chrysalis.

"When I was a kid I struggled a lot with who I was and where my life was going and what I was interested in. I was fortunate to have the arts inspire me and I think that that's one of the most important things about Project Limelight," Cory once said. "It gives kids exactly that. It gives them the opportunity to expose themselves to arts and arts education."

Now, Cory’s legacy can live on through all of these organizations. We’re glad to see something positive come out of such a heartbreaking tragedy.
