Glee’s Cory Monteith Tribute Spoilers: How Will People Cope With Finn’s Death?

By now, it seems clear that Glee will be a lot less Glee-ful than usual this season. Cory Monteith (Finn) passed away suddenly on July 13, and that means his character will have to be written off. We’ve already learned that Finn will die during Glee Season 5, Episode 3: “The Quarterback,” and that the entire episode will serve as a tribute to Cory and to Finn.

Kevin McHale (Artie) recently told TV Line that there’s really “no ‘right’ way to do” an episode like this. But given the circumstances, he thinks the writers were able to do Cory justice with the episode.

“There are so many incredibly well written and powerful scenes,” Kevin says. He adds that one scene, in particular, will really blow everyone away. “When [the cast] got the script, we were all reading it together and we were like, ‘Did you get to that one scene.’ And when you see it everyone will know what that one scene is.”

Without knowing anything more, we’d venture to guess that he might be talking about a scene involving Lea Michele (Rachel). The role of Cory’s real-life girlfriend in the episode will be a limited one, but when she does appear in the final act of the episode, her role is reported to be extremely powerful.

When the New Directions learn that Finn has passed away, they will face a wide variety of emotions. In fact, a number of the characters will be in a state of deep denial.

“Some people aren’t dealing with the loss of Finn, and it’s a difficult thing because in real life none of us were like that,” Kevin says. In real life, everyone is all too aware of the harsh reality of Cory’s passing. But over at McKinley, some of the glee club kids aren’t ready to have to deal with that reality quite yet.
