Late Glee star Cory Monteith will receive a special tribute at tonight's 2013 Emmys Awards, and not everyone is pleased about this. But now Cory's mom is defending her son's Emmys honor.
Cory is among the five TV personalities who died this year who will receive a special Emmys tribute, with Cory's presented by Glee star Jane Lynch (Sue). But Adam Klugman, son of late TV legend Jack Klugman, doubts whether Cory deserves the honor. Jack — who earned three Emmys and four additional nominations for his iconic roles on shows like The Odd Couple and Quincy, M.E. — passed away in December and will not receive a special tribute.
Adam says that Jack not receiving a special tribute is "criminal" and said about Cory: "He was a kid who had won no Emmys, and it was a self-induced tragedy." Fellow TV legend Larry Hagman of Dallas and I Dream of Jeannie fame will also not be getting a personalized tribute.
Now, Cory's mom, Ann McGregor, is speaking out about the criticism. She tells TMZ that she definitely feels Cory is worthy of tonight's special honor, saying that Cory was on a path to have even more success as an actor. Plus, she praised the charitable work that Cory had done.
"If he had lived 30 more years, he would have accomplished much more," Ann adds.
Ann believes that Adam Klugman loves and misses his father, and that his anger about Cory's tribute is misguided. And while we are looking forward to what Jane Lynch will say about Cory tonight, Ann says she won't be watching the Emmys, explaining that it would be too painful.
Our hearts continue to go out to Cory's family, along with Jack Klugman's family as well.
