It may have been five months since the world lost Cory Monteith, but that hasn’t stopped people from trying to learn more about him.

Google’s numbers for 2013 are in, and “Cory Monteith” is the #4 most searched term of the year. Death in general dominated the top of Google’s list this year — Nelson Mandela, Paul Walker, and Cory together made up a third of all searches in 2013. The only birth on the list? Prince William and Kate Middleton’s royal baby, Prince George.

We’re not surprised. Nelson Mandela was (and still is) highly respected and well known around the globe, and Cory and Paul were both part of huge franchises with dedicated followings.

Other popular searches this year were Harlem Shake, Apple iPhone 5s, Playstation 4, and Samsung Galaxy 4s.

Cory’s death was a huge topic in social media as well — especially because of Glee’s young fanbase. The tweet that girlfriend Lea Michele posted on July 29, breaking her silence about Cory’s death, was the most retweeted message of 2013, garnering over 408,266 retweets.

“Thank you all for helping me through this time with your enormous love & support,” her tweet said. “Cory will forever be in my heart.”

And in the hearts of the rest of the fans who loved him so much.

Did you think Cory’s death would be such a popular search?
