With the one-year anniversary of Cory Monteith’s (Finn) tragic death this Sunday, July 13, we know we’re in for plenty of reflections from co-stars, friends, family, and more about what it’s been like to live a whole year without him. However, one person we weren’t necessarily expecting to hear from is the actor’s estranged father, Joe Monteith.
As you can see for yourself in the video above, Joe sat down with ET Canada recently and opened up about life without the Glee star, who passed away from a heroin overdose in a Vancouver hotel room last summer. “I still miss him very much,” Joe says. “I still have the empty feeling inside.”
Joe says the reality of Cory’s death was only made worse when the actor’s mom wouldn’t allow him to attend the funeral. “I didn’t get to go to his viewing, which would have meant a lot,” Joe revealed. Instead, Joe says he only heard about Cory’s cremation ceremony. “They had one in Victoria. I guess they spread his ashes in a cove that he really enjoyed going to,” he said.
Since then, Joe says he and Cory’s mom, Ann, have reached somewhat common ground. Watch the video to hear the kind of peace offering his ex-wife recently made.
To hear the rest of what Joe had to say about Cory’s death one year later feel free to watch the video above and leave some memories of the actor in the comments below.
