Cory Monteith’s Death: Movie Co-star and Vancouver Pal Speaks Out
Cory Monteith’s (Finn) sudden passing on July 13 of a heroin and alcohol overdose shocked everyone, but the news has been particularly difficult for his close friends and family. Now, Cory’s friend and fellow Canadian Kevin Zegers is opening up about how the tragedy has impacted him.
Cory overdosed in a hotel in Vancouver, and Kevin says he has been in the city in the time since the Glee star’s death. “There was a group of us who were there for the whole finding out up until now, and it’s been very, very strange,” he tells Bello magazine, via Just Jared.
Earlier, Cory’s cousin revealed that the Glee star’s ashes will be spread in various places that he loved. Kevin tells the magazine that he took some of Cory’s ashes back to Los Angeles.
One of the things that makes Cory’s passing all the more difficult for Kevin is that like Cory, he, too, dealt with addiction in the past.
“By the grace of God, I’m not dead,” he said. “I think it’s something that constantly reveals itself as something that happens to people who, for whatever reason, don’t get well, and it was by no lack of him trying or anyone else trying to help him get well.”
When all is said and done, losing Cory is just immensely painful. “He’s probably the closest person I’ve ever lost,” Kevin says. “It was a heavy and weird month. Cory was the nicest man I knew. It’s a f–king horrible disease.”
