Cory Monteith’s Last Film, McCanick, to Be Released on Blu-Ray and DVD May 20

Before Cory Monteith’s sudden and tragic death in 2013 of an overdose, he still had a couple of films waiting to be released. One of them was McCanick, a crime thriller which starred Cory as drug dealer Simon Weeks. The movie first premiered at the Toronto Film Festival, and now, it’s being released on DVD.

According to, McCanick will be available to own on DVD and Blu-Ray May 20. It doesn’t ease the burden of losing our favorite Glee star, but owning the film is a great way to remember him and what a great actor he was.

And while the film itself may not have gotten rave reviews from everyone — Us Weekly called it “dreary and slow-moving” — Cory’s shining performance was one thing reviewers were unable to deny.

“Though Simon is hard-living, Monteith is inspired casting,” Us Weekly wrote. “The sweetness that endeared him to Glee fans still lurks within this character.”

David Morse, Cory’s co-star in the movie, has said that while Cory hadn’t seen all of the film, he had seen bits and pieces, and that he liked what he saw. “He saw it before all of the editing. He seemed pleased with the film when he saw it,” David said. “We all were.”

Are you planning on buying McCanick, or is it too sad to see Cory in action after his death?
