Could Marquel Martin Be the Next Bachelor? Exclusive

Marquel Martin may be knee-deep in sand and tequila (or whatever) as we speak, filming Bachelor in Paradise, but that hasn’t stopped a full-on #MarquelForBachelor campaign from taking over the internet in the meantime. The 27-year-old sponsorship salesman was dismissed by Andi Dorfman on the June 16 episode of The Bachelorette, and fans picked their jaws up off the floor just in time to ask for more Marquel, in a big way.

Season 17 Bachelor Sean Lowe hopped on Twitter and demanded another round of our favorite Cookie Monster, tweeting “Too soon to start the Marquel for Bachelor campaign? Think about it @ABCNetwork.” Oh, you’d better believe we’ve thought about it, Seanie. But has Marquel? Wetpaint Entertainment chatted with a show insider about whether Prints Charming would sign on, if the whole Bachelor in Paradise thing doesn’t wear him out too much.

“If he was up for Paradise, he’s definitely up for The Bachelor. It didn’t take him too much convincing to head back to another round of filming, and he handles everything they throw at him with a smile,” the insider tells us. “They usually announce the next Bachelor on the Bachelorette finale, but with another show in the tubes, they’re holding off until the Paradise finale to say anything.”

That extra time means that, if ABC wants Marquel for the next Bachelor, they can edit his summer storyline to flow right into the next. They’ve never cast anyone from Bachelor Pad to star on the wintertime show with success. Season 3 cast member Paige Vigil was shown the door straight away when she set foot on Sean’s season, likely because BP didn’t exactly have a straight moral compass pointing the same direction super Christian Sean was looking.

As for whether the topic has already come up, the insider wasn’t exactly sure. “Nobody ever talked about it on Andi’s season, at least not publicly. But if they ever wanted to have a black Bachelor, Marquel pretty much served it up for them with his gentlemanly, funny time on TV.”

We have to agree, and couldn’t be more supportive of casting Marquel, though we’ve heard that someone else from Andi’s cast has been in talks already for Season 19 (!) of the hit show. But if Marquel can convincingly wear florals and plaid together like a champ, we’re sure he could beat out anyone who gets in his way in the war of the roses.
