Country Music Legend Slim Whitman Dies

Sad news for country music fans as one of the greats has passed away.

Country singer Slim Whitman has died on June 19 of heart failure in Florida, according to Entertainment Weekly.

Slim has sold more than 120 million records worldwide and is known for his high-pitched yodeling voice.

His 1955 song "Rose Marie" held the record for the spending the most weeks at number 1 on the UK Singles Chart until Bryan Adams finally broke the record in 1991.

Slim's career began in the late '40s, but he earned additional fame in the '80s due to his quirky TV ads.

A song of his is featured in the 1996 film Mars Attacks!, which causes the aliens' heads to explode. Another of his songs is in the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Apparently, his songs work well in alien movies.

Slim is survived by a daughter and a son.

We wish the best to his family during this tough time.
