Teen Mom 2's Jenelle Evans is almost a free woman — emphasis on almost. This MTV superstar married her estranged husband, Courtland Rogers, back in December 2012, and let's just say their divorce has been a long time coming. North Carolina state law requires couples to be separated for an entire year before filing for divorce, which means Jenelle has been unhappily married for the past 12 months. The good news? Wetpaint Entertainment exclusively learned that Jenelle filed divorce papers on Friday, May 2, 2014, and Courtland Rogers received them on May 8!
Unfortunately, there's also bad news. Courtland recently took it to Twitter to say that he has no intention of signing his divorce papers until his lawyer gives him the go-ahead… which won't be until July. "Damn so my divorce lawyer is in the Bahamas until July 11th…" Courtland tweeted on May 10. "She said to sign nothing until she gets back ... Soooo I guess that means…"
Let's not forget that Jenelle is expecting a child with her baby daddy, Nathan Griffith, at the end of June, which means she'll still be a married woman when she gives birth. Even worse? Some fans seem to think that Courtland's name will be on her baby's birth certificate due to state laws stipulating that a husband's name be included until a paternity test proves that he isn't the father. Yikes!
We're sure Jenelle won't be thrilled if Courtland's name is on her baby's birth certificate, but she might not have to worry. We spoke exclusively with Jenelle's lawyer, Dustin Sullivan, who told us that Courtland has "30 days to respond" to Jenelle's divorce filing. If he doesn't, "the court will most likely grant our request for Ms. Evans to be divorced from Mr. Rogers."
Fingers crossed that Jenelle will become a free woman before going into labor!
