Bachelorette Alum Craig Robinson ‘Disappointed’ by Juan Pablo Galavis’s Anti-Gay Remarks

Juan Pablo Galavis shocked fans of The Bachelor franchise with recent statements about what he thinks about the possibility of a gay Bachelor. "I don't think it is a good example for kids to watch that on TV," he said, before adding that he felt gay people were "more pervert."

Many members of the Bachelor community were outraged and took to Twitter to react. Season 6 Bachelorette alum Craig Robinson took more than 140 characters to speak exclusively with Wetpaint Entertainment about his feelings.

"I don't know Juan Pablo, but the comment he made was beyond disappointing. I 100% support gay rights, and I am sure that my friends in the Bachelor community feel the same way," the attorney says about Juan Pablo's declaration.

He continues, "To classify gays as 'perverts' is offensive, misguided, and demented. I truly hope that supporters of the show know that this is not in any way a representation of the mindset of the show's alumni."

Several other members of Bachelor Nation have tweeted similar admonishment of Juan Pablo's remarks.

Juan Pablo’s comments came as part of an interview with The TV Page at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Friday, January 17. When asked about what he thought about a gay Bachelor, he responded, "Obviously people have their husband and wife and kids, and that is how we are brought up. Now there is fathers having kids and all that, and it is hard for me to understand that too in the sense of a household having peoples... Two parents sleeping in the same bed and the kid going into bed... It is confusing in a sense. But I respect them because they want to have kids. They want to be parents. So it is a scale... where do you put it on the scale? Where is the thin line to cross or not? You have to respect everybody's desires and way of living. But it would be too hard for TV."

Further on in the interview, he continued, saying, “There’s this thing about gay people that, it seems to me — and I don’t know if I’m mistaken or not. I've met, I have a lot of friends like that — they’re more pervert, in a sense? And to me the show will be too strong, too hard to watch on TV.”

ABC responded with a statement, distancing themselves from the stance of their star and calling his comments “careless, thoughtless, and insensitive.”

Since the backlash over his comments hit, Juan Pablo has issued an apology, saying that his comments were taken out of context and explaining that he has gay friends and was misunderstood.
