Game of Thrones Crashes HBO Go During Season 4 Premiere

HBO Go was the target of many a heated swear word last night as eager Game of Thrones fans found themselves unable to access the Season 4 premiere. The show broke a ratings record with its audience of more than 6.6 million viewers, and the Go technology just wasn’t ready to handle that kind of massive turnout.

Addressing fans on Twitter, HBO Go addressed the hoards of frustrated folks who ran into problems when trying to watch the episode on April 6.

Looks like there’s trouble in the realm. Apologies for the inconvenience. We’ll be providing updates, so please stay tuned. #GameofThrones,” HBO Go wrote yesterday evening.

To try and quiet the outrage of the GoT fans denied their evening in Westeros, the cable company promised to provide the premiere episode on HBO On Demand as soon as possible. “Having trouble accessing @HBO GO? Send a raven. @GameOfThrones will be available soon on HBO On Demand with some cable providers,” the site tweeted late yesterday.

While we appreciate HBO’s tongue-in-cheek humor, we have more than a hunch it might have rubbed some fans the wrong way. Thankfully, though, Go did eventually get back in the game, returning service to several platforms within two hours of that initial “uh-oh” tweet.

Let’s just hope this doesn’t happen every Sunday or else Daenerys may have a choice word of her own to use...
