Pretty Little Liars Crazy Fan Theory: Is Aria “A”?
Pretty Little Liars is a show that not only encourages but practically requires intense, creative thinking from the fans. If you're not digging into every clue and approaching each mystery from every possible angle, you miss out on half the fun.
With so much speculation bouncing around the internet each week, there are always a thousand interesting theories to read about. Some are fairly straightforward and seem pretty likely, while others are way more outside the box — and even cooler for it. These are the ideas that seem a little too crazy to actually be right, but that doesn't mean we don't love them. Plus, in Rosewood, nothing is totally off the table.
Each week, Wetpaint will be highlighting a different fascinating fan theory that sheds new light on the show. To kick us off, we're taking a look at one of the most popular extreme theories out there: that Aria is "A"!
What?! those of you not familiar with this theory might be asking. How could that be possible? Well, for a thorough look at all the clues fans of this theory have collected, we encourage you to peruse the "Aria Is 'A'" Tumblr tag, but here are some of our favorite points in this theory's favor.
Aria is often MIA when "A" stuff goes down. Obviously, Aria has had her fair share of run-ins with "A", but fans have noted that she's often busy with boys or family while the other Liars are occupied with tracking down clues and being harassed by "A". Similarly, Ezra is the only pretty little love interest who hasn't been majorly targeted by "A", despite the fact that he would be very easy to bring down. Coincidence? Just the result of the writers putting a lot of focus on Aria's love life? Or is there something more to it than that? It would be awfully cool if this was actually the key to everything...
She's connected to a lot of "A"-related imagery. The showrunners and directors put a lot of thought into every frame of this show, so it's not entirely out there to think that moments like this, and this, and all of this are more than just coincidence.
And all the other little clues. As we said, you can look through the Tumblr for all the other little clues fans have gathered, but there are a lot of things that, when you look at them all together, start to seem suspicious. Aria loves scary movies and crime novels, the Liars themselves once called her the best liar in the group, there's the whole "Aria You're a Killer, Not Ezra's Wife" anagram, etc. etc. etc.
What do you think of this theory: Totally crazy, or potentially true? Do you think it would be a cool twist, or a betrayal by the writers? Sound off in the comments below!
