Pretty Little Liars Crazy Fan Theory: Bethany Wasn’t the First Body in Ali’s Grave

On the Pretty Little Liars 100th episode, we learned who was in Alison's (Sasha Pieterse) grave: Bethany Young, someone we've never heard of before. But is it possible that Bethany's body isn't the first to occupy that space?

The Pretty Little Liars fandom is full of creative people, so each week, we like to explore the wilds of Tumblr to find an interesting theory that's so crazy, it just might be true. This week, we want to to talk about the idea that Bethany Young wasn't the person originally in Ali's grave.

Where does this theory come from? Well, first, there's the fact that we have no idea who Bethany Young is. We expected the person in Ali's grave to be someone who was connected to the story in some clear way. It's possible, even likely, that Bethany will turn out to have significance we don't yet understand, but some fans think it's a cop out to create a character to be in the grave and retroactively fit them in to the story.

Then there's the fact that at the beginning of Season 3, there was that whole plot where Ali's grave was dug up. Now that we know it wasn't ever her body in the grave so clearly someone knew how to fake the evidence who's to say "A" didn't pull a switcheroo. If the original body was incriminating for "A" (or someone else, for that matter), perhaps this Bethany girl was substituted in later.

Who could have been the original body, then? Some think it might have been Sara Harvey, the missing girl we learned about in the Season 4 winter premiere who bore a startling resemblance to Ali. After all, many think she must play some role in the story, since there was so much focus put on her for an episode.

What do you think of this theory — is it possible, or totally crazy? Sound off in the comments below.
