Is Glee Creator Ryan Murphy’s Instagram a Fake?

Sorry, Glee and American Horror Story fans. We’ve got some bad news for you: creator and showrunner Ryan Murphy is not on Instagram, despite the fact that someone has been posting as him on a very convincing account.

The fake account has been active for over a year, and frequently posts the same pictures Ryan uploads on Twitter, including on-set Glee photos and candid shots of he and Lea Michele. If you’ve been duped, don’t feel bad — over 73,000 people followed his account, so you’re not alone!

So how do we know it’s not him? When a fan asked Ryan’s assistant, Sara Stelwagen, if the account was really Ryan’s over the weekend, she answered in the negative right away.

“Not real,” she confirmed. “He doesn’t have Instagram.”

Sara’s worked pretty closely with Ryan for years on Glee, American Horror Story, and The New Normal, so we know she’s definitely telling the truth. And if that Instagram account did really belong to Ryan, she would totally know.

Don’t worry, we’re pretty disappointed we won’t get to see any awesome behind-the-scenes pics with hipster-esque filters from the man pulling the strings behind our favorite shows. But don’t feel too let down — we can still follow Ryan’s every move on Twitter: @MrRPMurphy is his real account!
