Grey’s Anatomy: Cristina to Get Heartbreaking, Fitting “Exit She Deserves”

If Cristina (Sandra Oh) has to leave Grey’s Anatomy, at least we know she’ll be doing it the right way.

At least. according to creator Shonda Rhimes, who promises that Cristina will get a send-off fitting for her character, who we can’t imagine the show without.

“We’re going to give her the exit she deserves,” Shonda tells E! News. “And when Sandra walks out of my door, Grey’s Anatomy will once again be forever changed.”

The exit Cristina deserved that we had in mind involved a little award called the Harper Avery, but apparently, Shonda’s got different ideas. We know that Cristina is definitely getting closure with Burke when Isaiah Washington returns to the show in Episode 22, but the rest of the details of Cristina’s exit are, predictably, still top secret. And if you were worried about Cristina meeting a violent end, as so many of our favorite Grey’s characters have, it doesn’t sound like that’s a possibility. Feel free to sigh in relief along with us.

“Cristina’s departure is both heartbreaking but also completely fitting for the character — and I hope for fans as well,” Shonda tells TV Guide.

In the promo for tonight's episode (April 24), we saw Cristina saying, "I know what's next... and it's big."

Cross your fingers for an awesome job opportunity elsewhere, leaving ends open for Cristina to make it back to us for the inevitable, eventual series finale.
