The CW Cancels Star-Crossed, Tomorrow People, Carrie Diaries

Ugh! Here's some news that's super sad, but not totally unexpected: TVLine reports the CW has officially given the axe to Star-Crossed. While the sci-fi romance has some seriously committed superfans, it appears that legion, however dedicated, was too small to keep the series afloat. In addition to canceling the freshman show and its adjacent series, The Tomorrow People, the network announced that Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries is over after two seasons.

While Star-Crossed and The Tomorrow People gave the CW its best Monday in more than a year, ratings have failed to pick up in any consistent way. For Monday, May 5's Star-Crossed episode, "This Trick May Chance to Scathe You," less than a million people tuned in, making it the least-watched Monday night network show this week besides NCIS.

Fans say Star-Crossed failed because it didn't really get a chance to thrive — it premiered on a Monday during Olympics season, the beloved How I Met Your Mother finale, and some major Bachelor episodes. The end of the series' run has had to contend with some stiff competition, including The Voice, Dancing With the Stars, and the FOX reboot 24: Live Another Day.

"[T]hose who have sampled the show have stuck around, meaning that the problem isn’t the show itself," Shilo Adams over at ScreenFad explains in the show's defense, arguing that it's not a matter of quality as much as bad timing.

Either way, the season finale this Monday, "Passion Lends Them Power," will be the last Star-Crossed episode to air on the CW. We're actually pretty bummed.
