Dad Caught on Camera Throwing Toddler into Swimming Pool to “Teach Her a Lesson”
A father in Phoenix has come under fire after a video showing him throwing his toddler daughter into a swimming pool recently went viral. The result? Another case of alleged child abuse caught via surveillance footage.
Local news affiliate ABC 15 Arizona aired the disturbing video of the father — who has been identified as Corey Edmund McCarthy, age 23 — throwing his daughter into a pool, then again after his girlfriend is shown fishing her out of the water.
Court documents show that Corey told officers that he was punishing his 1-year-old daughter Mia for allegedly letting a puppy drown, adding that he threw her into the pool in an attempt to teach her about pool safety.
Sergeant Trent Crump with the Phoenix police explained that the surveillance video shows the toddler completely unattended next to the swimming pool for about 25 minutes. The officer added that Mia allegedly threw two dogs into the water during that time, apparently accidentally drowning one of them.
The girl’s mother, Samantha, tearfully told ABC 15 that Corey “traumatized” their daughter. Samantha adds that Mia is physically OK, but now has nightmares and is scared of water. Mia’s father has since been arrested and charged with two counts of child abuse.
We have so many questions. First, why was a 1 year old left by a pool unattended? Second, why was she left alone with two dogs? How could a father do that to his own kid, and why didn’t the woman who witnessed his actions stop him? We have to agree with the ABC 15 anchor: there are no words.
