Game of Thrones Shirt Gets Professor Suspended Without Pay (VIDEO)

Dragons are scary but t-shirts? The admins at Bergen Community College in New Jersey seem to think so. They suspended an art and animation professor, Francis Schmidt, after he posted a photo of his young daughter in a Game of Thrones t-shirt.

The bright yellow shirt read “I will take what is mine with fire & blood,” which, as any fan of Westeros knows, is said by queen of our hearts, Daenerys Targaryen. You know, the made-up character in George R.R. Martin’s fantasy saga, A Song of Ice and Fire?

Well, make-believe or not, Bergen Community College ain’t havin' it, says Inside Higher Ed. After Francis posted a photo of his daughter doing yoga in the shirt on his Google+ page, he received an email from the school’s human resources executive director, James Miller. Francis was asked to meet with Jim immediately because of a “threatening email.”

Turns out the word “fire” could be code for “AK-47,” making Francis’s photo “threatening,” or so says the school. The result? Francis says he was put on leave without pay until he could be cleared by a psychiatrist. He’s since been OK’d to return to work (because duh) and the school’s faculty union has filed a “no confidence” vote against BCC’s president.

One final note on this odd news: If Daenerys actually had AK-47s at her disposal, this whole reclaiming the Iron Throne thing would have been taken care of pages and pages ago.
