Dallas Teacher May Be Fired Due To Past Playboy Spread As Students Defend Her
Would you be okay with your child’s teacher being a former Playboy model and an occasional “lesbian sex scene simulator?” Some Dallas parents were faced with that very question, and now the high school teacher in question could be in jeopardy of losing her job.
According to Gawker, "Coed of the Month” in February of 2011, Cristy Nicole Deweese, was hired to teach Spanish at the Rosie M. Collins Sorrells School of Education and Social Services at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center in Dallas. Now 21, Cristy likely regrets the decision to appear in Playboy two years ago.
A video has surfaced of Deweese being interviewed by the infamous magazine during the shoot, and she even mentions her aspirations to teach Spanish. She also talks about the fact that the beef jerky she’s eating is “hot and moist,” but that’s beside the point.
Texas Education Agency spokeswoman Debbie Ratcliffe weighed in, telling Dallas News, “It wasn’t an illegal activity, but it raises the question about whether that action violated the Educators’ Code of Ethics.”
While there has been no official comment from the school or school district in Texas, Gawker notes that some parents have voiced concern over Deweese, with one saying kids will be unable to look at her “without picturing her nude.”
What’s interesting is many kids have taken to social media platforms to say that the past is the past, and it should be of no concern.
As one student tweeted, “She’s a teacher now, not a Playboy model anymore.”
While we don’t have a copy of the “Educators’ Code of Ethics” on hand, we have to wonder what the bylaw would be that states one can’t pose nude to raise money for school. And, as one snarky Gawker commenter pointed out, “Her students are teenagers. They're already picturing her nude.”
Of course, this will surely be a contentious topic among many Texas parents. Where would you fall on the debate?
