Damian McGinty on Cory Monteith: “One of the Nicest Guys I’ve Ever Met”

We’ve loved watching Finn (Cory Monteith) and Rory (Damian McGinty) bond together on Glee, and now Damian is sharing some truly touching memories of his time with Cory.

“There’s people on this earth who make an effort to show love, there’s people on this earth who make an effort to give every human being time, and he was one of those guys,” Damian tells Extra about his onetime Glee co-star.

“Anybody that knew him even for a few hours, anybody that met him for a day will know how good of a guy he was, will know how much of an inspiration he was to so many people in this world,” Damian continues.

Damian who pointed out on Twitter that he filmed his very first Glee scene opposite Cory says he was lucky to spend time with the cheery Canadian. “I was very fortunate to work with him for a twelve month period, and he was incredible. He was real incredible, a real salt-of-the-earth guy,” he says.

“He taught me a lot and was grateful to be alive. He was just happy,” Damian adds. “I can’t say enough good things about him — one of the nicest guys I’ve ever met in my life.”

Damian says he didn’t learn about Cory’s death through the news but heard from The Glee Project mentor Robert Ulrich. “I haven’t read anything online; I just spoke to Robert Ulrich, who’s the [Glee] casting director,” Damian explains. “I had a good conversation with him.”

As of the time of the interview, Damian hadn’t yet spoken to Cory’s girlfriend Lea Michele (Rachel). “Everybody’s just having their own time everybody’s having their own privacy, dealing with it in their own ways,” he says.

We love what truly heartfelt and moving things Damian has to say about Cory. Our thoughts are with him and the entire Glee cast as they continue to grieve.
