First Look: Dan Stevens’ First New Role After Downton Abbey (VIDEO)
When Matthew Crawley (Dan Stevens) suddenly and tragically died in the Season 3 finale of Downton Abbey, we pretty much lost it. There were tears. Well, more like uncontrollable sobbing. We yelled many, many unpleasant things at our TVs.
Matthew is off the show for good, but that doesn’t mean that actor Dan Stevens will be similarly missing from our lives. After departing the show, the 30-year-old Brit has booked a number of new roles — and the trailer for his first post-Downton movie has just been released.
Perhaps to help ease the sting of his departure, Dan’s new character bears quite the striking resemblance to our beloved Matthew. The film, titled Summer in February, will premiere in UK theaters on June 14. Not only is the movie set in 1913 Great Britain — the same location and time period as Downton — but Dan’s character, Gilbert Evans, seems very Crawley-esque in personality.
Gilbert is described as “upright, earnest and true of mind,” plus... he’s madly in love with a pretty brunette.
Those aren’t the only Downton parallels. For anyone still feeling a bit unsure about Dan’s recent physical transformation — he dyed his hair dark brown and lost a noticeable amount of weight, presumably for another movie role — you will be glad to hear that the Dan of Summer in February is still his familiar blonde-haired, slightly babyfaced self.
