After an emotional week in the ballroom, things are taking a more light-hearted turn when a few of our favorite pros return to DWTS for a week of mentoring and side-by-side performances. One of those former pros is Maks, who decided not to return for Season 16. However, that doesn’t mean, he’s not up for supporting his brother Val, who happens to be partnered with one of the season’s standout competitors, Disney starlet Zendaya.
Despite Maks’ decision to leave DWTS before the start of the 2013 season, there’s no bad blood between him and the ABC series that made him a household name. In fact, sources close to Maks tell Wetpaint Entertainment he’s excited to reunite with his Dancing With the Stars family. After all, he’s competed in the hit ballroom series since Season 2, and he’s still under contract until 2015.
However, Maks’ main priority will be helping Val and Zendaya top the Leaderboard. Not only will Maks and former pro Anna Trebunskaya be dancing side-by-side against a few Season 16 couples — Len wants to see how the couples compare to the pros — but he’ll also serve as mentor during the rehearsals for his bro and Zendaya. (As if we didn’t already think Zendaya was the luckiest girl in the competition!)
To amp up the drama, Maks will also help mentor Zendaya and Val’s biggest competition: Jacoby Jones and Karina Smirnoff. It turns out reports of Maks and Karina’s unfriendly relationship have been greatly exaggerated. Despite their split in 2009, the two are now on much friendly terms. So much so that Karina and Maks will also share a steamy dance on performance night.
But don’t get too excited, DWTS fans. Maks’ Season 16 debut is just a one-time thing. He took off the 2013 season to focus on his career. In a statement announcing his departure back in March, Maks said he was taking this time off “to dive into producing and acting.” And it looks like he’s well on his way to becoming a Hollywood name!
