At least they didn't cut the entire fall season of Dancing With the Stars!
ABC just released its 2013-2014 fall primetime schedule, and while DWTS is still on the list, it "will now air from 8:00-10:00 p.m., on Mondays, integrating the performance show and results show into one night and making each episode action-packed event television."
Translation: No more Tuesday shows. No more one-hour, or even two-hour, Results Shows with musical performances, pro performances, Macy's Stars of Dance, AT&T Spotlight performances, behind-the-scenes looks, or that big Tuesday Finale we're used to. A lot will change.
Why? ABC Entertainment Group president Paul Lee told reporters on a conference call that they "want to focus it in" and are still planning to do two seasons. "We think that by taking the results and building it into the two-hour block from 8 to 10 on Monday nights, we can really build a sense of occasion to that and drive viewership to Monday night," he continued. "So we're focusing our energies on Monday … It allows us to put S.H.I.E.L.D. in on 8:00 on Tuesday, which we think is the perfect place for that show. So it's a one-two punch for us."
Partially, it's about casting, too. "One of the critical things each cycle is to make sure we nail the casting," he said. "You saw us aging down that this year with some spectacular casting. Certainly we're gonna make sure as we focus on Monday that we focus as well on casting that can help us age it down."
How do you feel about losing the Tuesday show? As mentioned above, ABC will now air Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D Tuesdays at 8 p.m., with The Goldbergs airing at 9 p.m. and Trophy Wife at 9:30 p.m. Maybe ABC will change its mind if the new shows don't pan out, but for now, this is our new reality.
Fall premiere dates will be announced later. Considering the big scare last year that ABC might totally cut the fall show, this is at least a compromise. Still, we'll miss the Results Shows. What about you? Sound off below!
