Dancing With the Stars pro Mark Ballas is a man of many talents, and he’s ready to take one of them to the next level. He teased his upcoming album recently, and now he’s revealing not one, not two, but three snippets of new songs!
To no one’s surprise, they’re danceable. Even ones with mainly acoustic guitar have us dancing in our seats, and there’s no doubt that Mark knows how to write.
In the video below, there are a handful of clips of him playing live and singing in the studio, plus him dishing a bit about the story behind each song. The “percussive, rhythmic feel” of his music comes from both his dancing and longtime guitar playing, and that’s definitely prominent in one track, “She.”
Mark explained that “She” has a “very strong flamenco vibe,” and the lyrics are pretty spicy. "She moves so slow, girl got her body under control. She grooves so well, she gonna lay it down...” he croons, later singing, “Her body moves like a cobra and she's ready to strike. Go ahead and take a bite.” Whoa!
The DWTS alum also shreds on the guitar with “throwback funk, rock, and blues” in songs like “Miss Incredible” and “Nicci.” Though the latter is about a “poisonous relationship,” he explains this is a “feel-good record [about] having a good time,” and his goal is that the “hook gets stuck in your head before the song's over.”
“All the girls around the world, you're so incredible,” he sings in “Miss Incredible.” We’ll be singing that into the mirror as a pep talk for the foreseeable future...
