Dancing With the Stars fan fave pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy was MIA in Season 16, but according to ABC President Paul Lee, the bad boy of the ballroom could return in Season 17.

Access Hollywood reports that during the Television Critics Association Press Tour, Lee was asked about Maks's status, and he replied, "Maks is part of the family. He may well be back," noting that ABC "love[s] having him a part of [the show]."

Of course, this isn't exactly new information. Maks is under contract with the show until 2015, and the "family" metaphor has come up in the past. That said, Maks also has a lot of other projects on his plate.

Chances are that we will see Maks hit the Dancing With the Stars ballroom at some point during Season 17. But whether it's as a competing pro or just an occasional guest — for instance, during some of the pro dances, or for challenges requiring extra pros, like the Trio Challenge — remains to be seen.

Would you like Maks to come back, or do you prefer seeing more of the newer pros? Sound off in the comments below!

Catch the Dancing With the Stars Season 17 premiere on Monday, September 16, 2013 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
