Love him or hate him, there's no denying that Maksim Chmerkovskiy is one of the most dynamic pro personalities in Dancing With the Stars history. It's hard to accept that he wants to move on from his role as a competing pro on the show — we made it through Season 16 without him, but many fans still hoped for his triumphant return in Season 17. Alas, it was not to be.

Here's our question: Are you upset Maks is MIA again, or do you think the change is a good thing?

We're of two minds. There's no question that we loved having Maks as part of the show. He's a fantastic dancer, fun choreographer, and yes — super hot. Never discount the importance of that. While his combative relationship with the judges could sometimes get tiring, it was nice to have someone who would reliably call them out if they were being unfair, inconsistent, or overly cruel. He was always entertaining, and his weekly presence in the ballroom is definitely missed.

That said, change can be a good thing. Last season Maks's younger brother, Val, was able to really break out, solidifying himself as one of the standout pros in his own right. While we're sure he and Zendaya would have shone no matter what, it helped that he was no longer in his older brother's shadow.

Likewise, this year troupe member Sasha Farber was promoted to pro; new blood is always good, and there wouldn't have been room for him if Maks had taken that slot.

What's your opinion? Do you miss Maks, or do you prefer the change?
