Dancing With the Stars 2013 kicked off with an incredible round of performances on Monday, September 16, and in turn, equally amazing stories. Though all dozen contestants had inspiring tales to tell, the biggest moments of the night came from Valerie Harper, who battled terminal brain cancer, and Jack Osbourne, who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis last year.

After Jack’s first performance — which had mom, Sharon Osbourne, sobbing in the audience and dad, Ozzy Osbourne, near tears — he opened up to People about how grueling rehearsals have been and what he does to make sure he’s in his best health on the show.

"We take it easy," he said of how he and Cheryl Burke practice. "I've just got to listen to my body and pay attention to where I'm at, and not overdo it. I've been trying to get a lot more sleep, which has been good."

In addition to his MS, Jack also has been dealing with the aftermath of his wife Lisa Stelly’s tragic miscarriage. He has tried not to let it affect them, keeping as positive as possible.

"It's been interesting times as of late," he said. "But, you know, you persevere through it and you keep on smiling and do what you can."

We’re keeping Jack in our thoughts. What do you think of his inspiring story? Tell us below.
