While viewers didn’t see Bill Nye getting injured during his Dancing With the Stars 2013 performance on September 23, we’ve seen the aftermath. After being hospitalized briefly, he was diagnosed with a partially-torn ligament in his knee, he considered rehearsing with partner Tyne Stecklein, but he hasn’t been in the studio yet.

As of yesterday, he was headed to a wedding in upstate New York and trying to figure out his next step. Then, the Dancing With the Stars Instagram posted a photo of his knee that showed just how dire his situation is — and it looks like he won’t have his dancing shoes on anytime soon.

In the photo, his left knee seems to be swollen to about three times the size of his right. It looks incredibly painful and difficult to even walk on, let alone dance. While Bill and Tyne’s scores haven’t been very high throughout their two weeks on the show, fans have rallied and kept him in the competition. However, if he doesn’t perform, he’ll likely have to leave the competition — historically on DWTS, one doesn’t just skip one week and start again.

We’re pulling for him to have a quick recovery, but even if a miracle happens, dancing with a torn ligament is not only painful, but dangerous. He could make his condition worse if he pushes himself after healing.

Do you think Bill should perform on Monday? Sound off below, and feel free to leave your get-better wishes for him in the comments.
