While Dancing WIth the Stars 2013 debuted earlier this month as Monday’s most-watched show with 16 million viewers and was up 13 percent year-over-year, the following weeks haven’t been as great for the reality competition.

According to TV By the Numbers, they hit a sophomore slump with a only 13.3 million viewers and a 2.3 rating in Week 2, then fell even further with 12.8 million viewers and a 2.0 rating for Week 3 on September 30.

These aren’t all-time lows, but it still isn’t good news for the hit dance competition. With only one live night per week and eliminations rushed at the end of the episode, they were able to cut out a lot of the excess fluff of the show, but in turn, did they cut a huge chunk of their viewers? Maybe, but ABC is rallying to make sure the show does better as the season progresses.

For the next few weeks, head judge Len Goodman will be judging on Strictly Come Dancing — the U.K. mothership show that helped make DWTS happen in the U.S. — and on the October 7 episode, former pro Julianne Hough will take his place! This will certainly bring back old fans to the show who may have dropped off, and with her brother, Derek Hough, still on the show, maybe they’ll even dance together.

After that, there will be another special guest judge, which we hope is former pro Maks Chmerkovskiy. With his brother, Val Chmerkovskiy, on the show, too, there could be another sibling dance ahead of us!

Are you surprised by the Dancing With the Stars ratings? Sound off below, and catch the next episode on Monday, October 7 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
