One of the few benefits of a beloved pro not competing on a season of Dancing With the Stars is we get to hear what they really think of the current routines.

DWTS pro Chelsie Hightower is now blogging for ABC News, and she gave a rundown of the Season 17, Week 5 routines. Like Week 4 guest judge Julianne Hough, she was mostly positive, but she shared a little tough love, too.

Chelsie shared a nice list of “superlatives” from Most Memorable Year Night, saying her favorite performances went to Brant Daugherty and Peta Murgatroyd for their Contemporary; her favorite choreography was the Foxtrot from Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff; the most technically perfect was Amber Riley (take that, Len Goodman!) in her Foxtrot; the most improved celeb was Bill Engvall in his Viennese Waltz; and best costume and biggest suprrise went to Christina Milian and her elimination.

Fun stuff out of the way, Chelsie did have some constructive criticism for Elizabeth Berkley and Val Chmerkovskiy, and she seems to think Elizabeth didn’t deserve the 8 and two 9s she got for her “I’m So Excited” Jive.

“I’m a 90′s kid, so Saved by the Bell was my show and Zach Morris was the epitome of perfect in my 12-year-old mind,” Chelsie wrote. “The dance had a clever opening putting Valentin’s acting skills to the test (he’s no Zach, but he still did a very fine job). Unfortunately, I was not amazed by the dancing. There were several glaring moments where she was off balance and didn’t look as well-rehearsed as she has been in the past, and overall I might say that it just wasn’t memorable. Nothing glaring, but nothing amazing either. For me, it fell into the so-so category. Keep working, Elizabeth, you’ve done great so far. 7.5.”

So, Chelsie would’ve given her a 7.5, if the half-point option was back. (Should it return? Why did it leave?) Maybe the DWTS judges were just caught up in the ‘90s magic and didn’t want to tick off the Saved by the Bell fans who loved that nostalgia trip.
