Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff tackled the Viennese Waltz for Dancing With the Stars 2013 Season 17, Week 6, but it wasn’t your average routine — it was Game of Thrones-themed! Spoiler alert: Corbin is a total GoT fanboy.
As Khal Drogo and his Khaleesi, Daenerys Targaryen, they danced in full costume, gliding across the floor to the Game of Thrones theme song. It was intense, mesmerizing, and sharp as they clearly got in character, achieving lifts and spins that made this worthy of the final performance. And to top it off? His High School Musical co-star Ashley Tisdale was in the audience cheering him on!
Bruno Tonioli kicked off commentary with a big critique: “Corbin the King’s flair, dancing with dragons. It really was an epic melodrama, but your lines. Usually you have wonderful flowing lines … but somehow, it lost the flow.” He was expecting an “immaculate finish.”
“I think what you did worked up to those standards,” Carrie Ann Inaba countered. “I think the passion worked. There could have been more hold, but passion sold the story.”
Len Goodman was half-and-half. “I love the lyrical movement, I love the theme, but listen, people think I’m cranky — I have to be and try to be consistent,” he noted. In order to be do that, he had to say the same thing to them as he did to Amber and Derek last week — the hold wasn’t there. “It didn’t feel it was a Viennese Waltz,” he concluded.
Sadly, they scored the lowest of the night with two 8s and a 7, giving them 23 total.
