Send your best healing thoughts over to Dancing With the Stars pro Derek Hough, who is suffering from a back injury. At this point, it’s affected his Season 17, Week 7 rehearsals enough that Amber Riley has had to train with Henry Byalikov instead. Hey, there are worse fates!
But poor Derek. On October 23, he tweeted, “Sleepin in the studio ... Think I'm comin down with somethin :(." That sounded like a cold, but in her Parade blog, Amber updated that Derek’s health issues go a little deeper.
“This week, we’re doing a Paso Doble,” Amber wrote. “Derek’s back is really bothering him, so I am learning with one of the other dancers, Henry, and Derek is still there choreographing. I may have to actually do the dance with someone else if his back doesn’t feel better because he’s severely injured. It’s a little touch and go right now, but we’ll see what happens during rehearsal and whether or not Derek will feel well enough to perform on Monday, or if he has to take it easy for a minute.”
Yikes! Amber said it’s a little weird and confusing to dance with Henry while listening to Derek’s instructions. “But we’ll see what happens, and here’s wishing Derek a speedy recovery!”
Do you think Derek should dance on Monday or, if his back is really an issue, should he not risk making things worse? These two don’t seem to be leaving anytime soon, so he may want to play the long game.
