UPDATE 2: The big announcement was Cher as next week's guest judge and performer!

UPDATE 1: Host Tom Bergeron retweeted a link to this speculation story, writing, "I'll give you a hint. One of the guesses in this article is right! And it's not # 5." In his TV Guide blog, Derek Hough said there's no double elimination this week. So, if that's still true, it leaves 2-4.

Original story:

Mystery time! A new promo for Dancing With the Stars Season 17 mentioned a big announcement coming at the start of this Monday, October 28’s Week 7 show. Maybe ABC is just fishing for even more viewers and the announcement isn’t that life-changing, but with all the “twists” this season, we’re feeling a mix of curiosity, dread, excitement and just general nerves. Stop messing with our minds!

What could this big announcement entail? Here are some possibilities:

1. A double elimination

Nobody went home last week, and even though they never said this week they’d make up for it with a double dump, it’s possible they just didn’t have time to mention it or wanted to save it for a dun-dun-dun surprise. A press release for this week’s individual and Team Week dances only mentioned, "At the end of the night, one couple will face elimination," but that could be why it’s a “big announcement” — it’s a change from the expected format.

2. New judge

Maybe someone is filling in for head judge Len Goodman again this week? Perhaps a past pro like Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Louis van Amstel, or Lacey Schwimmer? Rumors were recently revived of the show wanting to replace Len on a permanent basis, but they wouldn’t do that in the middle of the season and tease it like this. That’s too low… unless Len wanted to leave at this point, which probably isn’t the case. A guest judge, though? That’s a possibility, for any one of the judges or as a fourth judge.

3. Another “in jeopardy” announcement — or other new “twist”

Remember two weeks ago when they launched the show by saying a female celeb would go home, unless she got high enough scores? No one really liked that twist, but maybe they’re doing something like that again and they want to tease it up first this time.

4. Results Show coming back?

It’s possible this announcement is good news, not bad. Although, it could be bad news for another show. What if the Tuesday Results Shows are coming back, because ABC is freeing up the fall schedule? At this point, The Goldbergs and Trophy Wife air back-to-back from 9 to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays, but apparently they're not doing too hot and there's speculation that they might be canceled. That could open the door for the Results Shows. But would they really tease up another show’s death like this, before the cancellations are even announced? Hmm. Maybe not.

5. Something else

The big announcement could be something we’d never even guess. Maybe it’s too specific or not quite as big as we’re expecting. Hopefully we haven’t gotten ourselves worked up for nothing… but it wouldn’t be the first time.

What’s your guess for the big announcement? Sound off below, and catch the episode on Monday, October 28 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
