Bill Engvall is score-proof on Dancing With the Stars Season 17!

He had been getting fairly decent scores — mostly 8s — for the past few weeks, but last night on Week 9, he got 7s across the board. He and Emma Slater ended up with by far the lowest score of the night, and when they were in "jeopardy" with Elizabeth Berkley and Val Chmerkovskiy, Emma started to cry. She thought it was time. But they'd been there before, and once again, they were fine.

After the show, they talked to On the Red Carpet about the pleasant surprise of making it to the Semifinals.

"I'm so proud of what we've done,” Bill said. “I've started this at 56, I've never ballroom danced. I don't claim to be the best dancer on the show, never have. But I will tell you this, I'm in there working twice as hard as anybody else because I am 56 and it's harder for me to pick it up. And I'm so proud of what this little lady's done with me. And by God, we do deserve to be here! And I've got the greatest fans on the planet. They just keep on, keep on, keep on."

Even though the trend so far this season has been for higher-scoring couples to be eliminated over newbies, Emma said she'll probably cry through next week’s show, too. Bill said, "Honestly, we had said to each other, 'This has been a helluva ride' and if this had ended tonight we would've been fine. And that's from my heart."

But one of his wife's friends gave him something earlier this week that stuck with him. "It said, 'If you think you can or you think you can't, either way you're right.' And I think I can. I think I can make it to the Finals with this lady."

Emma said, "We have to believe in ourselves" and Bill is putting it out every week. They're trying to be positive about it, even though it's "horrible" to see friends leave every week. That's how the show goes, Emma said, and they can't change that, they can only keep bringing it for the fans. "This is a journey,” she said, “and I'm very, very, very proud to be part of it, and I'm grateful that we're here and I'm glad we're in the Semis!"
