The outspoken former pro is a guest judge for tonight’s (November 18) new Plugged/Unplugged theme, and he knows he has to put his money where his mouth is "to avoid being a hypocrite" after years of frustration with the panel.
"I have to be the person that I thought they should have been at the times I disagreed with their remarks," Maks told People. "It will be interesting for me to see, 'Now you are in a position that you criticized before. Let's see you do better.'"
Anyone expecting him to be the “bad boy of the ballroom” may be surprised; he could end up the marshmallow of the ballroom. "I'm not going to be as critical because someone's kicks aren't as crisp as they should be because I know who I am looking at and I see what their potential is," Maks said. "I will do my best with constructive criticism and with giving positive reinforcement."
We’re hoping he brings his extensive dance experience like guest judge Julianne Hough, but he should shout out his own name with his scores like Cher, that was great.
Speaking of great, Maks, 33, is still dating supermodel Kate Upton, and he told People she’s pretty much perfect all around. "She is extremely intelligent. We talk about everything including politics," Maks said. He respects how she earned her success on her own — and it’s not too shabby to be a household name at age 21. Plus, he said, "I love how she can go from being girly to being a businesswoman in the snap of a finger."
And she can dance … kinda. OK, maybe she could use some help here, but Maks would probably still give her a high score!
