The Dancing With the Stars Season 18 was announced this morning, and (as always) we're almost more interested in how the pros panned out as opposed to who the new stars are. And as always, it's a mixed bag.

There's a lot to be excited about in this pro lineup. Obviously, Maksim Chmerkovskiy being back is a big deal, and we're thrilled to see that he has a real contender with Olympic champ Meryl Davis. We're equally happy to see Sharna Burgess back for her third season, paired with Meryl's Ice Dancing partner, Charlie White. We're glad Emma Slater has returned after her phenomenal first season last year. Derek Hough is back again as well, as are many of the other core dancers we expect to see year in and year out — Val, Cheryl, Karina, Tony, Peta, and Mark. Meanwhile, newbies Henry Byalikov and Witney Carson could provide a fresh new perspective.

That said, there's never room for every pro we want to see, and some of the cuts this year really hurt. Why have the DWTS Powers That Be denied us Tristan MacManus and his adorable accent? Why? And what about Sasha Farber, who so impressed us with Snooki last season? Not to mention other old favorites we haven't seen in a while, like Anna Trebunskaya (OK, yes, she's busy with a new baby), Chelsie Hightower, Louis van Amstel, etc?

Sigh. Guess we can't have everything.
