On the Dancing With the Stars Season 18 premiere Sean Avery and Karina Smirnoff tackled the Contemporary. How did the former NFL star hold up when faced with a different kind of physical challenge?

"Apparently I'm a little bit of a bad boy," Sean said in his opening video, before deadpanning that he might attack a judge if they make him unhappy. Karina thinks Sean is really funny, because you don't expect him to crack a joke. He's very deadpan. Will that translate well to the dance floor?

Sean, dressed in all black, is better than we might have expected. There are some awkward moments, but other times he is very, very fluid. There could be some potential there. He needs to work on being more expressive.

Len said it was full of intensity and liked the lifts, but he thought it needed more finesse. Bruno was surprised that Sean was not a lump of ice; he was powerful and connected, though he needs to work on the connecting moments. Carrie Ann was "fascinated," but noted that he needs to learn to point his toes.

Score: 20/30.
