Dancing With the Stars Season 18 hit the ground running with last night's premiere. It's only been one night, but we're already feeling good about this cast. On a whole they're talented, dedicated, upbeat, and just plain fun.
For a Week 1 show, there were surprisingly few clunkers, and a whole lot of standout moments. That said, some stars started out on a higher note than others. So who made the best first impression, and who needs to scramble to catch up?
Here are Wetpaint Entertainment's picks for best and worst of the night. See our selections, and then share your own picks in the comments below!
Best: Charlie White and Sharna Burgess, Contemporary
On one hand, duh the ice dancer killed it on a Contemporary routine. On the other hand — who cares that this dance was obviously going to be a slam dunk? It was still amazing to watch. Sharna is a great choreographer, and Charlie executed the whole thing perfectly. We could watch them dance together all day.
Honorable Mention: Meryl Davis and Maksim Chmerkovskiy, Cha-Cha-Cha
Meryl and Maks were totally underscored. Which is fine — it might actually help them avoid some of the ringer backlash — but true. This Cha-Cha-Cha was sharp, fun, and proved that Meryl, though she seems sweet and shy in her interviews, can take on any character she needs to in her performances.
Honorable Mention: Candace Cameron Bure and Mark Ballas, Contemporary
While we thought this routine was a bit overscored, Candace was clearly the winner of the non-dancers last night. Her movements are strong and her performance factor is high. We can't wait to see what she does next.
Worst: Billy Dee Williams and Emma Slater, Cha-Cha-Cha
We loved the Star Wars theme. We loved Emma. We loved Billy's enthusiasm. But did he actually move?
Dishonorable Mention: Diana Nyad and Henry Byalikov, Foxtrot
Again, we loved Diana Nyad's personality. Her dancing? Not so much.
Dishonorable Mention: Sean Avery and Karina Smirnoff, Contemporary
Sean had an intensity that could end up turning into a good performance style, but right now we're not feeling it.
