All Dancing With the Stars celebs must hope to win, even if they tuck the idea into the very backs of their minds, knowing the Mirror Ball gods will only favor one couple out of a dozen.

There’s certainly more to DWTS than just winning, but as each season progresses, it becomes more obvious to the judges and the fans who are the real “contenders,” so it must become pretty clear to the couples too. After six weeks of dancing, Season 18’s Amy Purdy and Derek Hough are looking good to at least make the Finals, if not take home the trophy. That must add some pressure, but also a certain excitement.

Amy is a competitive snowboarder used to pressure, but she talked to the L.A. Times about what it feels like to wait through DWTS shows to hear if she’s “in jeopardy” and possibly going home.

“As far as eliminations go, honestly Derek and I do not even think about them until we are in that moment, there is no reason to, we really try to stay present in each and every moment,” Amy said. “I have been dancing well and the audience and judges seem to love our performances, but until you actually hear ‘Amy and Derek…you’re safe!’ there’s a little part of you that is definitely on edge for that time being. I definitely want to win, there’s no doubt about that, but even more than that I truly love sharing our hard work and performances with the world. We go through this whole creative process developing the dances, set, costumes etc. and I have found this new amazing way to express myself and I don't want that to end.”

No matter what, the journey ends on Tuesday, May 20, when the new winner is crowned. Will Amy end up the champ? She already has the backing of Cody Simpson, who left two episodes ago, and pro Cheryl Burke said she sees the Finals coming down to Amy vs. Meryl Davis.

Amy is certainly a contender — the judges love her, the fans got Amy and Derek’s names trending on Twitter after Week 6, and anyone who dances with Derek is a good bet to win. He’s won five times, including the past two seasons in a row. The fact that he’s dancing with Amy only makes them that much more formidable.

It’s no surprise that Amy has her eyes on the Mirror Ball prize, even if that’s not the primary reason she hits the dance floor each week. Do you think she’ll win, or do you see another celeb hoisting that trophy next month?

DWTS Season 18 airs Mondays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
