America cheered when Meryl Davis took home the gold in Sochi along with ice dancing partner Charlie White, and then they voted for her to to capture the coveted Mirror Ball trophy alongside Dancing With the Stars pro Maksim Chmerkovskiy on Season 18.

It's easy to see why this couple came out on top of this uber-competitive season. Meryl was, unsurprisingly, a technically strong dancer; we wouldn't expect anything less from an Olympic ice dancing champ. But her appeal went far beyond technique. Her artistry was undeniable, her ability to tell an emotional story amazing — and arguably more apparent in the ballroom than it ever was on ice — and her partnership with the normally prickly Maks a revelation.

In honor of their win, let's take a walk down memory lane with all of Meryl and Maks' performances from the year.

They started strong. Perhaps underscored?

Meryl can do fun just as well as she does emotional.

We tend to find Viennese Waltzs on the boring side on this show. Not this one.

Jaw. Floor.

Score: 40/40.

Finale Freestyle

Tears. So many tears.

Score: 40/40.
