Amy is one of 22 athletes — including Venus Williams and Michael Phelps — posing nude for this year’s celebration of athletic form.
Amy, 34, lost her legs below the knee at age 19, but she went on to win bronze as a snowboarder at the 2014 Paralympics and she just took second in the spring 2014 season of DWTS. She announced the big ESPN news via an Instagram post on June 25.
"I am so excited to share that I am so honored to be part of the @ESPN Body Issue! I have always admired the purpose behind the issue which is to celebrate the human form. I was a 19 year old girl who was insecure about her new legs and new scars. Back then I could not have imagined I would ever get a chance to be part of something like this. I now have become a confident woman who is proud of each of those scars and imperfections, and the long journey they represent. By participating in this pictorial, my hope is to inspire others to appreciate and respect the body they are in because I have learned that what makes you unique is what makes you beautiful. @espnmag #bodyissue #espnbody."
Congrats, Amy! Fellow DWTS athletes Apolo Anton Ohno and Hope Solo have also appeared in past ESPN Body Issues. The stars pose “nude” but it’s always tasteful, and the results are impressive and inspiring. Check out a preview video below, to get an idea of how the shots look. We can’t wait to see how Amy’s photos turn out. Go, Amy, go!
